Grassland is a key habitat for invertebrates of all kinds and it is far more varied than you might realise at first glance. I’ve always found identifying grasses to be quite intimidating. Some of them look really similar, a lot of them rely on very tiny details to be sure, and there are even a few that look really different from one specimen to another.
So when a colleague at the Buckinghamshire & Milton Keynes Environmental Records Centre offered to run an online skills-sharing session on identifying grasses, I was more than up for the challenge!
Under lockdown, all I have access to are urban specimens so I’m looking forward to what others might bring to the virtual table and excited to learn more about this varied group of plants.
